I just finished Love Thy Neighbor. I grew up in Dawson and was not all that surprised when the town and county voted for Trump. That area of Minnesota tends to be very conservative. What did surprise me was the hatred pointed toward Dr. Virji and his family. I grew up in a family that taught me to love thy neighbor even if we had differences. I liked to think everyone around me felt the same way, especially considering most of the town and county consider themselves good Christians. However, I always thought if Jesus walked through the doors of my church with long hair and sandals people would tell to leave, based on his appearance alome.This book is very well written and extremely powerful. I leaned a great deal about the Muslim faith and the Bible that I did not know, and in my job I have worked with many Muslims for years. I am a much better informed person thanks to Dr. Virji, and I don’t think I can ever look at my hometown the same again. I applaud those who were willing to listen and learn, and I am appalled at those who refuse to open their hearts and minds.Please continue to teach us all, Dr. Virji, and thank you for being brave enough to continue to serve this rural community and provide first-class medical care.
